Summary: KCQ is a great choice for large and small buyers alike who are looking for a high-quality Arriba cacao. A good option for small buyers due to low minimum requirements and easy access to the UIO international airport, but mid-size orders are tricky due to the expense of a 7 hour trip to the seaport and fewer products to absorb that cost. If you plan to purchase huge quantities, the cost to the seaport is less of an issue. They are very flexible and willing to work with you to create the exact presentation and labels you need. They are a specialty processor with super-high quality with their prices reflecting this quality.
Beans: They work and support an extensive range of associations and farmers helping to improve all phases of growing cacao. They only work with fine-flavored Ecuadoran Arriba cacao and have many European clients. Fine-flavored cacao is highly sought after by craft, artisanal, and niche chocolate makers in markets where quality is demanded, and the price is no object. Sourced from regions with low cadmium levels.
Products: Cacao beans, cocoa paste, cocoa nibs, dark coveratura, milk coveratura, white coveratura, dark chocolate chips, milk chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, cocoa butter, white chocolate, cacao husks, raw, and super raw.
Packaging: Custom packaging and custom presentations are welcome.
Certifications: HACCP, USDA Organic, FDA Registered
Samples: Samples will go by DHL, FedEx, or Ecuadorian Postal service. Samples provided are not free. The least expensive shipping option for samples is the Ecuadorian Postal Service which starts at about $90 for express service of up to 1 kilo.
Order Size: Low minimums. You can purchase a small amount of 500 pounds, but shipping and logistics from the UIO airport could run $2 per pound. While you can buy in small amounts, you will start to see better prices when you purchase over one metric tonne.
Shipping: Far from the seaport, 7 hours by truck, but close to the UIO international airport. Because they are far from the port, logistics can be tricky for mid-size orders.
Pricing: Prices are generally higher than other processors.
